Charlotte is a 36-year-old single mother from Antwerp, Belgium. She’s a musician, healer, tattoo artist, and above all, a devoted mum to her 8-year-old son, Howakhan.

When Charlotte was diagnosed with breast cancer, their world changed overnight.

Hope for Charlotte is a powerful 1 hour documentary, directed by Award-Winning Filmmaker Darren Cavanagh (The Very Creativegan), following her journey — through pain, strength, and the healing power of love. It’s a story about resilience, about the unbreakable bond between a mother and child, and about the power of hope in the darkest times.

Charlotte's Uncharted Battle Against Breast Cancer

Charlotte is at a critical crossroads in her fight against hormone-sensitive, locally advanced breast cancer. The disease has spread to many of her lymph nodes, and compounding the challenge are tiny spots in her lungs. These spots are too small to biopsy or operate on, leaving the true stage of her cancer agonizingly uncertain.

This uncertainty casts a long shadow over treatment decisions. If the lung spots are indeed metastatic (Stage 4), aggressive chemotherapy could bring severe side effects with little hope of a cure – a devastating overtreatment. Yet, if they are not metastatic, chemotherapy might offer her the best chance at long-term survival.

Adding to the complexity, other options like CDK4/6 inhibitors and antihormonal therapy might not be potent enough on their own to significantly reduce her risk of relapse.

Charlotte is facing life-and-death decisions without clear answers. To navigate this, she urgently seeks second opinions at leading medical centers in France and Portugal. Her goal is to gather the most comprehensive information and make the best possible choices for her future. She also hopes to explore integrative treatment options, such as those offered at Hope4Cancer, to bolster her body's strength and maximize her chances of overcoming this disease.

A Mother's Dream, A Glimmer of Hope
